The Axentis Michael Charitable Trust is pleased to support Vision North Somerset with a donation of £700 towards the development of a new accessible garden space for people living with sight loss.
The donation from the Trust will contribute to the construction of a raised bed area, with a design that has been carefully considered to ensure accessibility and ease of use for individuals with visual impairments and additional health conditions.
The garden will form part of Vision North Somerset's social support programme, providing a welcoming outdoor environment where participants can come together to maintain the space, grow plants and take part in shared activities. This initiative encourages a sense of ownership and community, while also delivering important wellbeing benefits such as reducing stress, supporting gentle physical activity and strengthening social connections.
Vision North Somerset has been supporting people with sight loss across the region for almost 50 years, having been established in 1975 as the "Woodspring Association for Blind People". The organisation delivers a range of services aimed at improving quality of life, promoting independence and reducing isolation.
With a dedicated team of staff and around 45 volunteers, Vision North Somerset supports hundreds of visually impaired individuals each year. Many of those supported are over the age of 65, often living alone and managing additional health conditions, making initiatives like this garden project especially valuable.
The Axentis Michael Charitable Trust is proud to contribute to a project that not only enhances outdoor accessibility but also creates opportunities for connection, activity and improved wellbeing. We commend Vision North Somerset for their continued commitment to supporting people with sight loss and look forward to seeing the positive impact this garden will have on the local community.
