In April 2024, the Axentis Michael Trust purchased a new wheelchair-accessible vehicle for Frankie with a life-limiting condition called Mitochondrial disease.
The Trust supported Frankie and his family back in 2022 by funding a specially-made X-Rover All Terrain Buggy with an additional support seat for Frankie's head, and were pleased to be able to offer further support to help improve daily life for Frankie and his family.
The new vehicle allows Frankie and his family to travel safely and comfortably, with Frankie positioned between his brother and sister rather than alone at the rear of the vehicle. The van also provides instant access to Frankie if he requires urgent assistance.
Frankie's Mum, Hannah shared these kind words with the Trust:
It has been a whirlwind few months since receiving our wonderful new wheelchair-accessible vehicle, but we wanted to express, from the very bottom of our hearts, the huge difference your support and the generosity of the Trustees at the Axentis Michael Trust has made to our family.
Thanks to your incredible grant of £16,045, we were able to secure a safe, comfortable, and truly life-changing vehicle for Frankie. The impact this has had on his daily life, and ours as a family cannot be put into words easily, but we will do our best...
For the first time, Frankie can now travel in comfort and safety. With the new configuration, Mum can access him quickly if he needs suctioning, even when travelling alone. No more frightening and dangerous stops on the hard shoulder, just the peace of mind that Frankie is safe and secure on every journey. That alone has lifted such a huge weight from us.
Beyond the practical, there is the emotional impact: Frankie is no longer isolated in the back of a van-like space. He now sits alongside his brother, sister, and family members, feeling included, connected, and very much part of us on our journeys. The difference this has made to him and to all of us, is immeasurable. Our car now feels like a true family car, not just a means of transport.
This summer, we were even able to take our very first family road trip to Spain. Something we once thought impossible became a reality. To travel long distances together, without fear or worry, and to create those special memories was a dream come true.
We truly cannot thank the Trustees of the Axentis Michael Trust enough for once again supporting us so generously. Your kindness has given us more than a vehicle, it has given us freedom, safety, inclusion, and treasured memories.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Your generosity has changed our lives in the most wonderful ways, and we will be forever grateful. With love and gratitude, The Penfold Family 💙
