Former football player and Manchester United manager Ron Atkinson has confirmed he will attend the Axentis Michael Memorial Ball, which will take place on the Grand Pier on Saturday 22nd November.
Ron Atkinson spent his entire playing career at Oxford United where he still holds the record as the club’s highest appearance maker. As a manager he won the FA Cup with Manchester United in 1983 and 1985 and the Football League Cup with Sheffield Wednesday in 1991 and Aston Villa in 1994. He will meet and greet VIP guests on arrival.
The sixth Axentis Michael Memorial Ball will take place in the Great Hall of the Grand Pier. The Snow Ball themed event is expected to be attended by over 700 guests.
The ball raises money for local good causes and has raised £750,000 to date. Organisers hope this year’s event will see them break the one million pound barrier.
The Axentis Michael Memorial Ball, which started in 2004, is held every two years in memory of Weston-super-Mare hotelier Axentis Michael who died in 2003. Following his death the family set up the ball and the charitable trust.
Axentis’ son and Grand Pier owner Kerry Michael said: “Since the last ball we have been able to support some great local causes and we hope to break the one million pound barrier on the night so we can continue to help people in and around Weston-super-Mare.
Preparations are well underway for this year’s event and I am delighted Jeff Banks and Ron Atkinson will be joining us on the night. We have had some fantastic support and I cannot believe the generosity of all of our friends and suppliers. We have some spectacular auction items to bid for on the night”.
